Compared to children's toys in general, there are not many outdoor toys to choose from but from the choice you have for your children, they can beat many indoor toys for fun, excitement and exercise which is always a benefit.

With indoor toys you have many types from small matchbox cars, railway sets, board games to modern toys such as a games console and desktop computer. With outdoor toys the main ones are trampolines, climbing frames, playhouses, go-karts and bikes in general

We are remember being young and venturing up and down on a climbing frame in the local park. These come in two different types, metal and wooden climbing frames. Metal frames in general consist of multiple bars standing on a tarmac surface with a variety of plastic shapes at the bottom to climbing through.

Wooden climbing frames took many ideas and gave children even more excitement which can now be replicated into your own back garden. Wooden climbing frames can start out as one particular model with more sections added on over time. They can have many activities such as commando climbing ropes, swings, slides, different towers which provides a sheltered play area as well as seating and sandpits.

Children's imagination can take all of this to the next level with both life skills and interaction with other children benefiting the outdoor playtime. An alternative to this is to sit in front of a TV screen looking at either their games console, PC or television and away from the fresh air and outdoor fun which is far from beneficial.

A more subtle outdoor toy is the wooden playhouse which can also be known as outdoor Wendy houses, children's summer houses and all incorporate sheltered fun all year round. The playhouse usually consists of one or more rooms in a wooden structure along with windows and a wooden door. For safety, the windows are made from shatterproof plastic, some with their own shutters.

The playhouse comes into its own with the ability to play outdoors but still under a roof so away from rain and wind. There are so many styles with playhouses aimed at girls, playhouses aimed at boys but also designs which will suit either. Some playhouses have a veranda, an upstairs level as well as a chimney. Many retailers stock different styles so have a good look around before deciding.

The most popular outdoor toy every single year, year in year out is the trampoline. This outdoor toys just springs excitement into children just by seeing one in their back garden or a friends back garden. The enthusiasm to bounce on a trampoline is hard to compete with so investing in a round, rectangular or Oval trampoline could be one of the best moves you make for your children's outdoor fun and exercise.

It is well known that bouncing on a trampoline is very good for you, lets children interact with each other, gain confidence and coordination and overall have excellent fun, sometimes hours at a time. One of the most popular trampolines in recent years is now the Jumpking OvalPOD which comes in two different sizes and In an oval shape instead of circular. This allows it to fit in different shaped gardens with the same brilliant fun as a round trampoline.

Lastly, Go Karts are still a popular outdoor toy but seem to have died out a little in recent times but still great fun. Many are pedal powered with one or two seats depending on the model and also good exercise as the effort to move a go kart can vary depending if it is being ridden on concrete or grass.

We hope you enjoyed this article and it has given you some ideas on outdoor toys to keep the children occupied throughout summer but also ideas for all year round.

Throughout the winter, children can't wait for summer to come so they can play outside for hours at a time instead of being locked up indoors. There are so many activities and outdoor toys for them to choose from as well as large outdoor toys for parents to invest in for their children such as trampoline, climbing frames and playhouses.

One of the most popular, if not the most popular outdoor toys is the famous trampoline. Trampolines stem back many years and are generally found to come in three different shapes which are round, rectangular and Oval. Oval may surprise you if you have not seen the Oval JumpPOD from Jumpking but this trampoline has become extremely popular. This is not just for its shape, but the opportunities its shape gives it which is to be able to fit into gardens where a wide round trampoline would not always fit.

Trampolines though are an outdoor toy which automatically fills children with joy, fun, laughter and high energy sometimes for hours at a time. The games children think up when playing on a trampoline is incredible and a great way for children to interact with each other and away from the latest console game or television program.

Another great toy for the back garden is the wooden climbing frame and the adventures they can bring to the garden. In general, climbing frames are great as their names goes with the climbing up and down which children love. The additional fun comes in when the climbing frame has had a great amount of imagination added to it in the way of additional features for fun. These can include slides, swings, steps, ladders, ropes, towers and many more depending on the manufacturer and design.

With a climbing frame, they can be used within the winter months but not all the features could be safe so this is down the particular design and parents view although they do stand well towards the winter weather elements.

A outdoor toy which is superb for the summer but also for the winter is the wooden Playhouse. The playhouse stems back from the Wendy house which we either had as a child or build with our parents furniture when we had the opportunity. Playhouses though are solid wooden structures which can include one or two levels depending on the design with doors, windows and superb detail giving the playhouse a theme. Popular themed playhouses include the Cubby, Daisy and Pixie Playhouses.

The great thing from a parent's point of view can be very different to a child's. In this day and age, exercise and keeping healthy is very important so the exercise children are receiving via their outdoor toys is superb. Games consoles and indoor activities maybe steering in the right direction but you cannot bear a couple of hours of outdoor fun with a trampoline, climbing frame, playhouse or any other outdoor toy.

When choosing any sort of toys for your children there are basic safety rules to follow, and there are even a few extras for outdoor play. The main thing to remember that selecting even the best and safest toys does not mean that your child no longer needs supervision. Any time your children are outside playing an adult needs to be close by and watching.

Some basic safety tips for outdoor toddler toys are as follows:

1.	Always follow the suggested age range on the toys
Whether or not you think your child can handle a more grown up toy, or see nothing to warrant a high age range, follow the guidelines. As a child gets older, he or she becomes more aware of dangers, and therefore can handle toys that may have a rough edge or may be a little heavier. This is not true for toddlers. Toddlers have little sense of danger and will often use toys in unexpected ways. For this reason toys for toddlers should be solid, lightweight and be free of any rough or sharp edges. If the child drops an age appropriate toy, or falls while holding it, the risk of being injured is greatly decreased.

2.	Find toys that are durable.
Toddlers are destructive, so their toys should be very durable. Expect your children to be dropping, tossing, climbing in, on and around their toys, and make sure that they can withstand that sort of activity. Durability is particularly important for outdoor toys, as you have the sidewalk and other hard surfaces to contend with. Make sure that any broken toys are disposed of immediately; make your own judgments as to whether or not they can be fixed. If you do attempt to fix a toy, do your own destruction tests to ensure durability before giving it back to your child.

3.	For Climbing Toys, make sure they are constructed with a solid base.
Toddlers love to climb and even if their toys are not meant for climbing you can be sure they will try to. To allow them to play without injury, purchase toddler toys that are meant for climbing. When choosing a climbing toy or play set make sure there is a very firm and solid base. Perform your own tests to make sure that it will not tip or collapse when your child tries to climb on it. Check for solid construction throughout and nothing poking out or sharp that could hurt your child. If you need to assemble the toy, put it together and then double check it before allowing your child to use it. If you will fit, try it out yourself. Many (but not all) toddler toys are designed to hold adult weight limits.

Choosing the best toddler toys for outdoor play is a mixture of common sense and a willingness to test and inspect toys to make sure they are truly safe. Follow the manufacturer's directions for assembly and placement. Be sure to store all of your outdoor toys in a dry storage area as well, and remember never let your child play alone, join in on the fun!

When you look for a new range of toys for your children indoor or outdoors then it can be a good idea to research into the toys your children maybe asking for as parents are not always on top of the latest craze. There are toys though which everyone has heard of such as trampolines, climbing frames as outdoor toys with consoles, action figures as indoor toys. This article talks about the possible safety considerations for outdoor toys as any parent cannot have their eye on their children every second they are outdoors although we would like to so sensible precautions are a must.

The first aspect to look at is that any outdoor toy if it is stationary is set to stand on level ground as even a slight slope could cause an issue to due balance of your children or the toy becoming unstable if to much weight is on one side. A extreme to this is a large outdoor pool which can easily bow and split with water going everywhere and children falling out of the pool. So if you are to have a large outdoor toy, make sure the ground is level.

Adding to this, make sure the ground is free from sharp stones and objects. A sharp object could possibly cut a outdoor pool but also be dangerous for children to stand on if they are getting in and out, climbing onto a trampoline or jumping off but also with a wooden climbing frame so have a look around each time your children wish to play outdoors before they at least remove their shoes.

Trampolines are one of the firm favourite outdoor toys throughout spring and summer with many children spending a considerable amount of time bouncing up and down. When you look to place a trampoline, climbing frame or outdoor toy then make sure you leave at least a 2 meter gap from the toy to the surrounding wall, bushes or house. This Is also the case with a outdoor pool but the issue here is the case of children accidentally falling from above onto a surrounding object which is not good at all.

This also could be the case if a child is bouncing on a trampoline or using a swing on a climbing frame. It can be very easily to look control if children are having fun so to have a adequate space from the outdoor toy to the border of the garden is very important.

When on outdoor toys such as trampolines and climbing frames, children do need to be careful they do not get overexciting and accidentally strike each other. This is very easy on a trampoline which leads to many manufactures and retailers advising online one child on a trampoline at one time. Many people do not abide to this advice due to the amount of fun kids can have together but this means it is more likely for children to jump into each other, noses to meet elbows and knees and all sorts of mishaps.

Different Activities You Can Do With Your Kids To Improve Their Fine Motor Skills

There are many different activities you can do with your kids to improve their fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are an essential component of physical development – especially when it comes to children that are in the preschool age group. These skills involve strengthening the use of the small muscles that are in various areas of the body – specifically the hands – so that several basic functions can be achieved. These functions include that of being able to grasp items that are relatively small, fastening buttons, zipping zippers, and even handwriting! Here, I will share with you different activities that you can do with your kids to improve their fine motor skills.

One of the most effective means of developing fine motor skills, in my opinion, is sitting down with your kids and playing games that include writing and even drawing. You will want to have several different types of art utensils available when you do this. This includes items like colored pencils, pens, thin markers, chunky markers, regular sized crayons, chunky crayons, and even finger paints. You may even elect to use watercolor paints and different size paintbrushes as well. You can play games like “Draw like the Leader”, where each of you draws or writes something, and then the other person copies it. You can practice drawing something in the home, like a ball. All of these activities assist in the overall development of fine motor skills.

The next method that you can use to assist your child in developing fine motor skills is to allow them the opportunity to cut out shapes and designs with scissors. This is a great exercise for strengthening all of those small muscles in the hands, and the wrists. It is also beneficial in developing the overall hand/eye coordination. Allowing children to engage in activities like “Connect the Dots” and tracing different types of pictures is another fun and exciting way to fine tune the skills when it comes to fine motor skills. In order to encourage your child’s success in these areas, it may be beneficial to create a “wall” in the home where their arts and crafts can be hung for display. Not only will they enjoy the work that they have completed, but you will be able to see an improvement in their ability to c
1000
ut, connect dots, and trace over time.

Many parents enjoy helping their child put together puzzles. There are a great deal of puzzles sold for children that are in the preschool age group. If you are working on fine motor skills, assembling puzzles as a team can be a great way to encourage development. There are also many toys sold that focus on allowing a child learn to tie a shoe, button, zip, wrap, and other types of similar activities. Purchasing these types of products, and then playing with your child while they attempt to face the challenges posed by the various products can prove to be extremely beneficial when it comes to the overall development of fine motor skills in your child. Any type of activity that allows a child to carefully manipulate an item that is relatively small, like a button, zipper, or puzzle piece is typically great when it comes to the development of motor skills. These are just a few great ideas on different activities you can do with your kids to improve their fine motor skills.

Some people just have the urge to climb up and up. If you're giving gifts to a climber, here are a few mountain, ice and rock climbing gift ideas.

Climbing Gifts

You can usually identify a climber at an early age. You come home from work and the energetic two year old is hanging from the top shelf of the bookcase. By the age of five, they've progressed to hanging off the edge of the roof and you're on a first name basis with your doctor. Don't even ask about the teenage years!

Since you can't beat a climber, you might as well give in to their passion. Here are few climbing gift ideas.

1. Avalanche Beacon - A new climbing toy is an invitation to climb. Since yours will come in the form of a Christmas gift, the climber can be expected to immediately climb mountains, rock walls or iced over waterfalls. Don't try to stop them. Just give them an avalanche beacon, an electronic device that sends out a signal if they happen to bring the mountain down on top of them. Backcountry is a good brand. You can expect to pay $100 to $300 to keep them alive.

2. Grip Strengthener - When it comes to hanging off the side of a cliff, the ability to grip the wall is literally the key to life. A grip strengthener is a device climbers can carry around with them to build up their grip by repetitively squeezing the resistance device. Grip Master is a good brand. You can expect to pay $15 to $20.

3. AvaLung - Back to our avalanche theme. Having an avalanche beacon is all well and good, but it doesn't really help if you can't breath while waiting for rescuers. The AvaLung is a very cool device that draws air directly from snow packs and lets climbers breath in the life giving air even if they're under ten or twenty feet of snow. Black Diamond is the best brand and you can expect to pay $100 or so.

4. "Fifty Favorite Climbs" by Mark Kroese. - This is an excellent book for climbers. The book lays out 50 climbs in North America and can be used as a "to do" list by even the best climbers. The book comes with narratives, photographs and detailed route descriptions. An excellent gift that will set you back $30 or so at any major bookstore.

5. Nomad Climbing Journals - A little self-promotion. Nomad Climbing Journals are great gifts for climbers. These writing journals allow climbers to keep track of their climbs, impressions, people the climbed with, routes, contact information and any additional information they feel necessary. Over time, the climbing journals become a history of climbs and a great keepsake. A great Christmas gift, you can see the journal by clicking the link in the byline of this article and expect to pay $25 for the journal with case.

As you know, there is simply no way to keep a climber from climbing. You might as well give in and give them a Christmas climbing gift.

Rick Chapo is with http://www.nomadjournals.com/climbing.cfm - makers of writing journals. Climbing journals make great Christmas gifts for him or her.

Affordable And Functional Kids’ Furniture

Your home may be your castle, but for kids, their room rules. From toddler onward, it’s a pretty fair assumption that your children are going to have some pretty specific ideas about how they’d like to have their room decorated. And those ideas are bound to change with time. While it’s great to encourage creativity and let their imaginations roam, frequent changes of décor can cost a bundle over time. Selecting a few basic furniture options that can follow your children from preschooler to teenager gives you the flexibility in your budget to add a few extra items that can make the space their own.

Kids’ Beds

Of course, one of the primary pieces of furniture in your child’s bedroom is the bed, and today’s options offer flexible designs that can take your child from infancy into adulthood. Offering a unique level of versatility, these “4-in-1” cribs can convert from crib to toddler bed to daybed to full-size bed with just a few simple steps.

From the clean lines of the Charleston 4-in-1 Coffee Convertible Crib and the Emi 4-in-1 Crib offered in ebony, honey oak and cherry finishes, to the regal bearing of the Princess 4-in-1 Dark Cherry Crib, you’ll find a crib that offers the perfect complement to your nursery décor.

Heirloom-quality bassinets are ideal for younger infants who crave a comfy, snug sleeping space. Both the Cherry Elegance Round Bassinet with Eyelet Bedding and the Portable 2-in-1 Bassinet/Toy Box will be treasured for generations.

If your child is past the crib stage, consider a bed that offers storage, as well as a comfy place to stretch out. Both the Country Pine Twin-size Mate's Bed and the Pure White Contemporary Mate's Bed feature comfortable sleeping platforms above functional, spacious drawers.

Bunk beds have always been a favorite among kids, and the options offered by the Sunset company run the gamut, from the traditional twin-over-twin design of the Sunset Black or White Twin/Twin Bunk Bed to the more spacious Sunrise White Twin/Double Bunk Bed and the versatile Sunset Black Twin/Futon Bunk Bed that offers sleeping and seating areas.

Kids’ Storage

With the bed chosen, it’s time to think about storage. Changing tables have come a long way from the
1000
drab-looking units of the past decades. Today’s changers are sleek, solid units offered in clean colors and warm wood tones.

The rich finishes of the Bella Changer Chest and the Piedmont Dark Chocolate Baby Changing Table make these pieces look as at-home in a living room as they do in a nursery. Drawer and shelf storage lets these changers serve your child well beyond the diaper stage. The Emi Ebony 4-drawer Dresser offers serious storage in spacious drawers, while the Pure White Country Door Chest takes advantage of vertical space with closet storage as well as drawers and open shelves. Or enter the world of fairytales with the fluid lines and vibrant blue finish of the Hansel Kids' Two-drawer Cabinet and Hansel Kids' Corner Stand.

Kids’ Entertainment

Recognizing that many kids’ rooms contain televisions and videogame systems, the Kids' Entertainment Tower offers ample storage for both while minimizing the floor space it requires. Or choose the Kids' Entertainment Center with its low profile and four-shelf under-TV storage option. The Kid's Three-tier and Four-tier Shelf systems offer easily accessible shelves that make it simple for kids to pick up after themselves, and keep toys and books within arm’s reach.

Kids’ Seating

With sleeping and storage options taken care of, you can turn your attention to seating options that will make the room a comfy, friendly gathering spot for your child and his or her friends. For sheer, slouching comfort in front of the television, as well as a warm, inviting place to snuggle with a good book, the beanbag can’t be beat.

Offered in a wide selection of colors and covers, you’re sure to find a chair that suits your child’s tastes. Choose from soft treatments, like the Sueded Corduroy Kid's Strawberry Beanbag Chair or Pear Sueded Corduroy Teen Beanbag, or the easy-to-clean surface of the Deluxe Vinyl Teen Red Beanbag Chair. Or get wild with theme covers, like the 'Smiling Skull' 84-inch Beanbag, the Guitar-print 84-inch Round Bean Bag or the Faux Fur Animal Print 84-inch Bean Bag. Both the 'Mod Dots' 84-inch Round Plush Beanbag and the 'Peace Sign' 84-inch Beanbag are ideal complements to the popular ‘60s themes of today’s kids’ rooms.

If beanbags just aren’t your style and you’re looking for a little more support, both the Microfiber Grey Chair with Wheels and the Folding Chair with Pillow offer support, as well as portability that allows some flexibility in your room design.

Letting your kids have a say in the design of their room will make it a place they’ll want to be, whether it’s for sleeping, reading or just plain relaxing. And today’s flexible options can help keep your wallet happy, too.

Here's a guide to which patio and backyard chores kids can do around the yard the summer, organized by age group.

Once a child reaches a certain skill or age level, he can generally do the chores for his age group and those for the age groups below.

Of course, some of these chores need to be done each day, others once a week, and still others once a month or even less frequently.

Use your best judgment for what gets done when.

Ages 2 and under:

- Pick up outside toys

- Collect snails in a pail

Ages 3 to 5:

- Previous chores, plus:

- Put away outside toys and games (and all their pieces) in the proper boxes or bins

- Help with planting

- Water outside plants

- Debug plants

- Sponge down the outdoor play table

Ages 6 to 9:

- Previous chores, plus:

- Hang up (pool) towel

- Rake leaves

- Sweep the patio and porches

- Wipe outside table and chairs

- Do easy yard work such as weeding

- Help test the pool or hot tub water

- Help balance the pool or hot tub pH

- Help clean the pool strainer baskets

- Prepare recyclables for pickup

- Clean doormats

Ages 10 to 13:

- Previous chores, plus:

- Take trash and recycling containers to the curb

- Clean outdoor furniture

- Plant plants and bulbs

- Harvest vegetables

- Mulch plants

- Take compostable material to the compost pile

- Cut flowers for the house

- Vacuum the pool once a week

- Scrub the pool sides occasionally

- Fish surface litter out of a pool (with a grown-up's supervision, of course)

Ages 14 to 17:

- Previous chores, plus:

- Mow the lawn

- Wash exterior windows

- Do yard work such as pruning

- Spring-clean the garage

- Check the pool or hot-tub filter

- Maintain the compost pile

- Clean out the fireplace and tools

- Change furnace filters.

It seems that children are not using their imagination nearly enough like they use to years ago. There was a time when you would find kids outside playing and doing their own games without having to worry about anything. Now that has changed. Today a lot of children stay inside because they are afraid of going outside or they just don't live in a safe neighborhood.

With so many children staying indoors, parents began to get worried about their education. And as a result, educational toys and games started being produced. These particular toys started selling fast because parents wanted to encourage their child to use their imagination instead of playing video games or watching TV.

Whenever kids hear of homework, they make a face. But when it's a fun toy they learn more from it. The best thing about educational toys is that it doesn't matter what kind of budget you are on, you can always find one. There are some cheap and expensive ones.

Some of the cheapest educational toys and games are as simple as turning a sock into a puppet, (also known as a hand sock) singing songs and saying numbers with it. More expensive toys might be getting shapes that match and playing a matching game. Blocks can also help because as they stack them, you can count with them.

Whenever a child is having problems learning at school, educational toys and games are the best toys to get. Then you can turn their hardest subject into fun. If your child is having homework problems, take a sock and make it fun for them.

It doesn't matter what age they are, you can always find something fun for them to enjoy and learn from.

Want to know more?

While searching for educational toys and games, I found a very helpful site called http://educationaltoysforyourkids.com. It is filled with a lot of ideas and suggestions to get your kids off the couch and interacting with others. They will feel like a whole new person rather then a couch potato or computer junkie.

You can check it out here: Educational Toys and Games.

Choosing Educational Toys For Toddlers

When it comes to learning toys, there are more products out there on the market than you can shake a rattle at. More and more we are learning just how quickly babies and toddlers learn, and how much they can absorb. You want to pick something that is not only educational, but will also grow with your child. Just make sure that you are aware of the basic safety precautions regarding small parts, durability, and age limitations. Read all instructions carefully, and if you are getting something from a friend or relative that may be an older toy, make sure everything is lead free. If you are at all concerned, lead test kits are available at most hardware stores.

With that in mind they are many different choices of brands out there. For hands on playing and learning, Little Tykes, Play School, and Fisher Price are at the top of the list. For fun interactive learning, Vtech is possibly the most versatile, expandable and easiest to use.

Building toys are one of the most popular learning adventures. There are many different kinds of building toys, and come in a wide variety of materials. Wooden blocks, a tradition in many households, are now made much more safely using a variety of plastics. Not only are these non toxic, because they are plastic, they can be hand washed and easily sanitized. These classics teach a wide range of quality things, eye hand coordination, shape recognition, and creative thinking are just a few.

Activity centers are very popular for small children. These are basically a combined assortment of things relating to sight, touch, and hearing. Many are brightly colored and keep your kids entertained for hours on end. Other activity centers can teach kids about tools, shapes, or even just have fun.
