And with the common issue of children's health in the news these days, cooking can also be a wonderful way to engage your child; by teaching children to cook healthily from an early age - away for sharp objects and heat of course! - parents can help them understand not only how their bodies work, but about the importance of personal health.

Educational math board games have long been used to nurture academic and social skills in children through an enjoyable and engaging approach. Most people are familiar with the popular board game, Monopoly. Yes, Monopoly is a great educational math board game for youngsters! It consists of a board, 2 dice, tokens, 32 houses and 12 hotels. There are Chance and Community Chest cards, a Title Deed card for each property, play money and a banker's tray. The object of the game is to become the wealthiest player through buying, renting and selling property.

This game allows children to practice counting as they move their tokens around the board; they learn to estimate the number of spaces to move when the dice are rolled; and they practice making purchases and making change during real estate transactions. There is some chance involved but there is unquestionably a great deal of problem-solving and tactical abilities required to perform well in this game.

Another educational math board game is Blokus which consists of a board of 400 squares and 84 tile pieces in four different colors (21 differently shaped pieces per color). These include: 1 piece consisting of a single tile, 1 piece consisting of two tiles, 2 pieces consisting of three tiles, 5 pieces consisting of four tiles, and 12 pieces consisting of five tiles. The object of the game is to achieve the highest score by placing the most tiles on the board and blocking other players from placing all their tiles on the board.

Each player chooses a color and the play goes in this order: blue, yellow, red, and green. After each player plays a piece from their respective corners, each subsequent piece must be played as to touch only at the corners.This strategy game calls attention to patterns. Also, players have to try to anticipate their opponents' moves and try to frustrate their efforts to lay their larger tile pieces on the board.

The game ends when all players are unable to lay down any more pieces. The scoring is calculated using positive and negative numbers. Then, they determine the total area of all the unused tile pieces.Math Smart is an educational math board game which helps children to easily begin to master the skills of basic math. There is a Math Smart game that for each of the following: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions. Each game plays like dominos and teaches like a tutor. There are 100 durable cards in each game.

Each card has a math problem on one half and a boldly circled answer to a different math problem on the other half. Players match the correct answer with the matching problem while forming domino-type patterns with the cards. Math Smart is a simple and fun way to capture childrens' interest while at the same time helping them to master basic math skills.As children play these and similar types of games, they are able to practice many fundamental math skills in an entertaining and interactive way. When they enjoy what they are doing, they will want to play longer and more frequently.

Games are a fantastic response to a child's desire for meaningful and creative play as evidenced by their degree of concentration while playing. They offer a varied manner in which to drill and reinforce math skills other than through the conventional manner of worksheets. Buying toys for your children can be difficult because all too often toys contain small pieces, breakable parts, or have sharp edges. But there are ways to cut down on the number of unsafe toys that you bring into your home.

Educating yourself about toy safety will help you make better decisions about which toys you should let your children play with.

You should pay particular attention to baby toys as your baby can become seriously injured when playing with unsafe toys. As your child grows, they will be able to play with more toys and avoid injury.There are many different types of toys on the market today. Just because developmental toys are meant to educate and help your child learn does not mean they are safe. You should always inspect a toy after bringing it home or when you are thinking about purchasing it at the store.

Pieces that can be swallowed, packaging that can cause suffocation, and wires that stick out are not toys that you want your child to play with. Find soft toys for babies, and toys that have large pieces for toddles. Toddler toys should be put away after use especially if there are other children that could hurt themselves. If you are unsure about the age limit of a particular toy, you should call the toy manufacturers to see what they have to say about it. Many toys have age restrictions on the boxes, but some do not. Use your best judgment when choosing these types of toys. The same goes for bath toys and infant toys. Once you have found a toy company that manufactures safe toys for children, you should continue to purchase toys from the company until your child grows out of them. Ride on toys should always be used under supervision so that your child does not suffer any injuries.

Other toys that involve movement include inflatable bouncer, jumpers, and other preschool toys. These toys should only be used by one child at a time and should not be used unless a parent is present. Children can fall off these toys and injure themselves.

As with most toys, you should limit the amount of time that a child can use the toy.

This will also reduce injury. Keeping your child safe is your first priority as a parent. If a toy seems unsafe, then it probably is.

Children's playhouses and toddler beds should be constructed with care using the correct tools. If a playhouse is not constructed correctly, then it could collapse and cause injury. The same goes for toddler beds. You should read all of the instructions before building these items.

With all of the trouble and situations that kids can find on the internet nowadays, some parents are finding themselves quite hesitant in letting their children play online games.

Older kids can suddenly find themselves the target of an online predator or playing a game that their parents definitely would not approve of them participating in.

For younger children, there are kids online games that are rather educational and safe. Most of those games are safe enough for parents to walk away from their children for a few moments and know that they are playing safely online.

I have a five-year old girl who is very good when it comes to kids online games. When it comes to playing games on the internet, we are very particular the same as what we let her watch on television. Some of our favorite children’s TV stations however have good websites with kids’ online games that allow them to play with their favorite characters. Not only are those sites filled with fun and creative kids online games, but they can be more educational than watching them on the television. Quite honestly, my daughter can navigate through their websites a lot better than I can! She’s learning about how to use computers as well as whatever else the games are teaching. I have found that by letting my daughter play kids online games, she actually comprehends more than the characters are teaching or showing on the television. But of course you don’t want to use the internet as a babysitter for your kids, not all the time.

On the computer, she has to count for herself – not just count along with the voices coming through the TV speakers. There are lots of other tasks that she has to accomplish for herself. While she hasn’t gotten into the Webkinz kids online games like many other children have, I know that if she does express an interest, that is a very safe and educational site as well.

A lot of time and energy has been spent putting together online games that children can find and play safely. It certainly will be a lot more difficult for a predator to target children when playing specific kids online games. I always make sure that I check on my daughter every few moments just to make sure that all is well, she’s still having fun and to make sure that she’s not breaking my computer!

It is relatively easy to find kids online games that are educational. You can simply search a few sites on Google or any other search engines. But be cautious on letting your kids sit in front of the computer for a long period of time because they might end up being a computer genius than you are!

If you’re a teenager interested in making money, then this article is for you. I’ll tell you how to multiply the money you earn from your after school job with something just as fun as gambling in Las Vegas but a lot safer – the stock market.

Most people think that teenagers would be bored by the subject of investing and the stock market, especially when there are much more exciting things for teenagers to talk about such as dating, going to the movies, and hanging out with their friends. Well if you’re reading this article, then you’re one of the many teenagers that break the “teenager stereotype.”

Ok, to make sure that this article wouldn’t bore you, I sat down and discussed some rules about investing with a group of teenagers.

They helped me come up with similarities between investing and dating, so I’ve decided to tell you ten ways investing in stocks is like dating. I know you’re thinking “whatever”. But keep reading and you’ll see it’s true. Learn how to invest in stocks and you’ll also learn how to win at dating. Let’s start out by defining what exactly a stock is.

Stock – A way to own part of a company. Company stock, or shares, can be bought online through internet trading companies such as E-Trade or through an investment company. You can make money by buying shares of a company that you think will sell a lot of its product. Stocks can be as cheap as $1 a share or as expensive as $3000 for a single share. For example if you bought Apple around the time it started selling ipods, you could have bought 100 shares for about $800. At its high price this year, those same 100 shares would have been worth about $8,500, not too shabby a profit, right?

OK. Now for the Ten Ways Investing is Like Dating.

Rule One: It’s possible to get ahead sometimes by doing close to nothing.

Investing in stocks is all about getting ahead by doing close to nothing. That’s not to say you can be lazy and earn money because, from the moment you start learning, it will take you at least a couple of years before you develop enough knowledge before you will feel confident enough about putting that hard earned money from your job into the stock market. And that’s a couple of years of consistent learning. But once you develop confidence in your ability to invest and make money, your money will start making money for you even while you’re sleeping. And that’s getting ahead by doing close to nothing.

So how does this concept apply to dating? Every teenager knows that if you’re trying to get “in” with somebody that you really like, that the best thing that you can do is to get that person’s best friend to like you. Because if you do, you can count on that best friend to tell the person you like a lot of good things about you. There is nothing more valuable than that. And you’re getting ahead by doing close to nothing.

Rule Two: The more experience you have, the better you’ll become at it.

Becoming good at making money doesn’t come easy. You’ll find that in the beginning, when you buy stocks that you’ll want to take small risks as you develop your style and gain more confidence in your skill.

This is good advice when it comes to dating as well. The more experience you have with dating, the more confident you will become, and confidence is an aphrodisiac to members of the opposite sex. Not arrogance. But confidence. So in the beginning of your dating history, when asking someone out, take small risks until you build up your confidence that you have the right approach. After that, confidence is all you’ll ever need.Rule Three: If you ain’t Cassanova, don’t ever try to be. Develop your own style. It’s much more attractive.

In investing, people try to copy the styles of the best investors out there. They buy the same stocks as the people that are known to have earned millions and sometimes billions in the stock market. The problem is this often doesn’t work for the average Dick and Jane because the experts that they copy have so much money that they make tons of money if stock price goes up just a few pennies. Not so for the average Dick and Jane.

It’s never that easy just to copy other people’s success. The same applies if you try to copy someone else that is popular with the opposite sex. Most times, when you try to copy someone’s style, it means your not using what you’re naturally good at.

If you were, you wouldn’t have to copy someone else. So just be yourself and don’t try hard to copy a popular boy’s or girl’s style. Because nobody likes a poser or a fake.

Rule Four: Dig below the surface and you’ll discover what’s real.

Just like with boys and girls, in investing, all that glitters is not gold. In deciding what stocks to buy, you don’t want to invest in a rapidly rising “hot”stock before really doing your homework.

If you do, the chances are that you will get burned. The price of many “hot” stocks fall just as quickly as they rise unless there is substance backing that hot streak.

Girls and guys are the same. You want to see if the “hot” guys and girls have anything more than just the genetics that their parents gave them. Is there anything beyond that beautiful face or body that gives them substance?. If you find out they have strong character, loyalty, and honor, then you’ve dug enough and you’ve got a winner. But if you dig and find nothing, then keep looking for something that’s real.

Rule Five: Sometimes you gotta find a way to discover what nobody else knows to get ahead.

The way to make money in investing is to find out about companies doing stuff that is really cool before anyone knows about it. If you had found out that Apple was coming out with the ipod several months before they started selling them and bought their stock, you could have made a lot of money.

Likewise, in dating, try to make these same types of discoveries. Discover what a girl or guy really likes before he or she tells you, and do something special for him or her based upon what you discover. If you do, you’ll definitely have one up on your competition.
