10 Essential Reasons Your Kids Need More Exercise
April 21st, 2010 by admin
Modern lifestyles mean that most people aren't getting as much exercise as they should do. As little as 20 minutes a day is enough to help to remain active and healthy. Your children need more exercise, as they are growing, and have lots of energy to spare.
1. If your children get a lift to school every morning, rather than walking or cycling, then they are losing out on valuable exercise. As well as being good for them, it can help to wake them up, properly and give them a good start to the day.
2. A lot of children have a less than healthy diet perhaps due to fussy eating, or giving in to your child's demands. By making sure that they eat healthily and get enough exercise you can help make sure that they don't become overweight and reduce the risk of suffering from other health problems.
3. Your children are probably getting less exercise at school than you did. This means that they are getting very little exercise during the week. Especially if they get a lift to school.
4. As more and more technology find its way into our homes, children are much more likely to be watching TV or DVDs, playing video games or on the computer. This means that are less likely to want to be playing outside, or kicking a football around the park
5. If you live near a busy road, or somewhere else where it's not safe for your children to play outside. They don't have to stay inside, but perhaps you'll have to make more of an effort to take them to the park, or swimming.
6. Nowadays friends and family may live further away, so walking / cycling to friends' houses is no longer possible. You may need to drive your children to their friends' houses after school, or in the evening.
7. Giving your children the opportunity to let off steam whilst kicking a football around, or cycling up and down a mountain, or swimming, or even just chasing the dog around the park, will do them the world of good.
8. If you don't get a lot of exercise, then your children aren't likely to understand the importance of it either
9. If your children are interested in as sport, why not encourage it? Perhaps they could join a football team, or take up a martial art, or play netball for school. Maybe they've seen a sporting event on TV or live, and want to get involved.
10. By encouraging your children to exercise, they are more likely to stay fit and healthy as they get older
If your children are not as active as you'd like them to be, and seem to be spending more time playing sports games on the games console than in the park, perhaps it's time you persuaded them to put down the console and play outside.
